About
Marcela Sarmiento Mellinger, MSW, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work. Dr. Mellinger has over 20 years of teaching and practice experience. Her practice focused on advocacy and administration, and she also worked with individuals impacted by intimate partner violence. She has taught courses across the social work curriculum, and currently focuses on policy, intimate partner violence, the introduction of social work as a profession, social work with communities and organizations, and field courses. Her research involves advocacy within non-profit organizations, micro and macro aspects of intimate partner violence, gender-based violence prevention on college campuses, as well as teaching in social work. As a Latina, she has special interest on issues addressing equity and inclusion.
Research interests
Advocacy among nonprofit organizations, social work education, macro and micro issues related to intimate partner violence, and gender-based violence prevention.
Teaching interests
Social welfare policy, intimate partner violence, gender-based violence prevention, communities and organizations.
