Professor of English, he received his degrees from Columbia and New York University. His books include Conceived Presences, Charismatic Authority in Early Modern English Tragedy, Charisma and Myth, Cultural Genealogy: An Essay on Early Modern Myth, and No One to Meet: Imitation and Originality in the Songs of Bob Dylan.
