UMBC Theatre presents The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, adapted by Jacqueline Lawton and directed by Joseph W. Ritsch. Life in modern day Baltimore has been a bit boring for Dorothy and her little dog Toto. Until one day, when a cyclone swoops in and takes them “over the rainbow” to the wonderful and magical land of Oz. With the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion, Dorothy sets off on the adventure of a lifetime down the yellow brick road to the Emerald City. These new friends brave witches, flying monkeys, and a Haunted Forest all to meet the Wizard of Oz, who promises to make their dreams come true.

The Social Sciences Forum presents Amber Spry, assistant professor in the Departments of Politics and African + African American Studies at Brandeis University, who will speak on “The Technological Future: Shifting the Focus from What We Build to Who We Build It For.”
In this artist lecture, Amina Ross unearths the possibilities of a multi-media practice through an active engagement of turbulence. How might an art practice pull apart the complexities of our current conditions by offering transitory spaces of refuge? How might transformation of an unbearable reality become possible only through “staying with the trouble”?
Join us as the UMBC Wind Ensemble presents Profit and Peril, which explores through music the human cost of progress across American history and lived experience. The event features the UMBC Camerata (Lulu Mwangi, director) and guest vocal soloist Janice Jackson of UMBC. From the American Revolution to the rise of artificial intelligence, the program traces how systems of power—political, industrial, and technological—shape and challenge human lives. The performed works humanize industrial labor, the Great Migration, and the lasting impact of racial and economic injustice. Across wind ensemble, choral, and vocal works—including music from Hamilton—the program centers the individuals living within these systems, ultimately affirming dignity, resilience, and human connection as the true measure of progress.
Ruptures gathers short films by Amina Ross that linger at the edge of collapse. Moving between video, sound, and digital space, the works explore moments when systems strain, bodies speak, and structures begin to crack open. For Ross, rupture is not simply destruction. It is a threshold where the pressure of the present splits something apart and makes space for new forms of relation, perception, and possibility.
