Explore breathtaking musical landscapes as pianist Liana Pailodze Harron presents an extraordinary program that celebrates both America's 250th birthday and the diverse musical traditions close to her heart. The centerpiece of the evening will be Aaron Copland's beloved Appalachian Spring, performed in its complete ballet version in an arrangement for solo piano. Joining Liana Harron is special guest McCoy Chance, an experimental visual and interdisciplinary artist, for a groundbreaking performance of an Icelandic piece, Ekki Hugsa (Don't Think) by Ólafur Arnalds, arranged for loop station and piano by the pianist.

In the spirit of armchair travelers everywhere, the Voyager Ensemble explores a new culture each year by combining standard repertoire along with contemporary works by composers from the region. This year’s concert focuses on the United States and its 250th annivesary with directors Airi Yoshioka (violin) and David Yang (viola) joined by eminent musicians Lina Bahn (violin) and Jan Mueller-Szeraws (cello). Their program features the premiere of a work by Linda Dusman, a composition by Thomas DeLio, and George Crumb's electrifying Black Angels string quartet.

Founded in 2024 by conductor Kenneth Slowik, the Smithsonian Academy Orchestra is a resident ensemble of the Smithsonian Chamber Music Society, a program of the National Museum of American History. The Orchestra’s repertoire ranges from Bach to Schoenberg, all performed on period-appropriate instruments, and in this program will present works by Haydn and Brahms.
