Burney will be in conversation with writer Chris Terry (assistant professor of English) about his essay collection. This event is co-sponsored by Maryland Humanities and the Dresher Center for the Humanities. Refreshments will be served. \nFreedom to Read: Libraries and Our Democracy — Thursday\, April 23\, 5–6:30 p.m. — Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery\nMaryland’s Freedom to Read Act\, passed in 2024\, ensures that “library materials and resources remain accessible to the public and cannot be removed solely because someone disagrees with their viewpoint alone.” Book challenges and censorship efforts are still on the rise across our state and nation. DESCRIPTION:The Department of Visual Arts hosts Rich Zim\, who is about to celebrate 40 years of professional stop motion animation\, for an artist talk and claymation workshop. His notable credits include Gumby\, Pee-wee’s Playhouse\, The Nightmare Before Christmas\, James and the Giant Peach\, Coraline\, and The SpongeBob Movie. He is currently the CEO and president of Zim animation\, where he has been making psychedelic oozing dripping clay animation sequences in his own studio for projects such as Smiling friends\, Rick and Morty\, Middlemost Post and many other TV shows and movies. \nArtist Talk — Moving Blobs of Clay: Thursday\, October 30\, 7 p.m.\, 030 Meyerhoff Building. Join Rich Zim as he looks back on clips from his 40 year clay animation career. See behind the scenes footage and hear amazing stories about one man moving a blob clay and pushing a button to shoot frames. \nSpooky Claymation Workshop: Friday\, October 31\, 10 am. to 4 p.m.\, Fine Arts Building (register here for this event — space is limited). Explore wild transformations\, exaggerated actions and otherworldly effects with clay in this spooky-themed animation workshop.
