The Alumni Association is a bridge to UMBC, a connection space for alumni, and a place to celebrate Retriever achievements. If you can’t find answers in our frequently asked questions listed below, contact us at alum@umbc.edu.

Connect

How do I connect with other alumni?
There are many ways to connect and engage with fellow graduates. We suggest you start by joining Retrievers Connect, our virtual professional networking platform. This community is a place to network with fellow alumni and students to share your advice, expertise, and guidance with current students and other graduates. You can learn about more ways to connect with other alums and with members of the campus community here.

How do I become a member of the UMBC Alumni Association?

At UMBC, you are an alum from day one. All UMBC graduates are automatically members of the UMBC Alumni Association for life, for free.

How do I update my address, name, or other information?
Keep us posted on changes to your job, contact information, or other achievements by updating your contact information and/or submitting a class note, so alumni around the world can see what you’re doing. Keeping your information up-to-date will also ensure you never miss a Retriever Roundup or new issue of UMBC Magazine.

How do I subscribe to the Retriever Roundup?
The UMBC Retriever Roundup is a free monthly e-newsletter containing alumni news, campus updates, and general alumni, athletics, arts, and family-friendly events. All UMBC alumni with current email addresses will automatically receive the Roundup by email each month. If you’re not receiving it, please update your email address.

What are the continuing education possibilities at UMBC?
UMBC is in the top tier of research universities nationally with one of the highest classifications given by the Carnegie Foundation. With state-of-the-art facilities and the finest of faculty, UMBC Graduate School offers options for completing a master’s or doctoral degree in a field that will elevate your career.

UMBC also offers a variety of applied graduate programs through the Division of Professional Studies (DPS) and professional development courses through UMBC’s Training Centers, with classes in everything from computers to human resource management. DPS offers a UMBC Alumni Scholarship for new graduate students and the Training Centers offers a 10% discount for UMBC alumni and students.

Where is the UMBC Office of Alumni Engagement located?
We’re on the 7th floor of the Administration Building at 1000 Hilltop Circle Baltimore, MD 21250. Get directions.

What’s with the Latin? Am I an alumna or alumni?
You may use alumna when referring to a woman who has attended a school; alumnus when referring to a man who has attended a school; or alum or graduate as a singular, gender-neutral option. Use alumni or graduates when referring to a group of multiple genders. Use alumnae when referring to a group of women only.

We also like to use the gender-neutral terms graduate and alum. Whatever Latin moniker you prefer, we want you to join us!

How do I support UMBC?
As a graduate, you’ve forged your path. But don’t forget to help those following the trail behind you. UMBC alumni donated more than $250,000 to UMBC last year, with most of the money funding scholarships and emergency funds for students in need.

In addition to contributing online, you can send a check (made out to the UMBC Foundation) to: The Office of Institutional Advancement, 1000 Hilltop Circle, Baltimore, MD 21250.

Want the personal touch? Contact a UMBC development officer at alum@umbc.edu or 410-455-ALUM for information on how to allocate your gift to a particular department or scholarship.
